SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team hosts their home opener this weekend. They play Oral Roberts on Sunday at 1.p.m. at Benson Stadium.
For the Cardinals (0-2), it took seven games before they played at Benson Stadium in the 2013 season, which resulted in a disappointing 2-1 loss against Trinity University. This year, after only two matches, they host Oral Roberts University in a non-conference match up.
UIW is looking to regain their home field dominance after dropping a pair of games last year. With only one goal being scored so far this season, newcomer
Noah Keats (Exeter, England) leads the team offensively. The top returning goal scorers from last year are seniors
Victor Pinal (Dallas/Skyline HS) and Alex De La Garza (Mission/Sharyland HS) with five apiece.
The Golden Eagles (1-0-1) have had a steady start to their season, defeating Missouri State, 1-0 and tying with Houston Baptist, 1-1 with both going to overtime. Senior forward Johnny Chavez has hit the target on both occasions for the Eagles. Ben LaCourse is likely to start in goal and has made a total of fourteen saves across both contests.
The last time the Cardinals and the Eagles met was in Tulsa, Oklahoma in a contest last year that finished in a 0-0 draw after double overtime. It was the only draw of the Cardinals season.
