Tennis Sweeps Prairie View

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's and women's tennis teams took home a pair of victories at Prairie View A&M on Friday.  The women won 4-3 and the men won 6-1.
 
The women's team picked up singles victories from Jennifer Betancourt, Andi Botha, and Taryn Strahl.  Betancourt clutched the win at #3 with a 3-6, 7-6 (6-4), 7-5 decision followed by Botha's quick 6-1, 6-0 at #4 singles.  Strahl clinched the match with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at #5 singles.  In doubles play, Sarah Savedra and Betancourt won 8-2 at #2 and then Strahl and Kelsey Reblin won at #3 doubles to earn the point.
 
The men dominated their match. The swept all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead.  Then, in singles play they won five of six matches.   The lineup (#1 through #5) of Jair Assuncao, Leo Ivic, Josip Smoljan, Tucker Brown and Brandon Davis each won their singles match in straight sets.
 
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday for their first Southland Conference match of the year against Abilene Christian at 2:30 p.m.
