EL PASO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team puts their undefeated record on the line Monday at 8 p.m. at University of Texas at El Paso.
The Cardinals (4-0) and Miners (4-3) are meeting for the first time ever and the game will be played at the Don Haskins Center. This will be the second road game of the year for UIW who defeated Princeton on the road earlier in the season.
The Cardinals boast a potent offense that is currently second in the nation with 90.4 points per game. UIW is led by senior guard
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) who averages 21.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.4 steals per game. Junior
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is one of the top scorers in the Southland Conference with 19.5 points per game while shooting 68.4 percent from three-point range and 64.3 percent from the field. In addition, he leads the team with 7.0 rebounds per game.
UIW is not just a two person team as they have five players averaging in double figures, including a pair of freshmen,
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) and
Traylin Farris (Pearland/Manvel HS). Walker is one of the team's dual point guards and he is scoring 16.8 point per game and is a 92.3 percent free throw shooter. Farris has been the top inside threat for the Cardinals with 11.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in only 18.0 minutes per game. The final double-digit scorer is the other point guard,
Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy Falls HS). Badillo chips in with 10.8 points and 7.0 assists per game.
The Miners won their first four games of the year, but are currently on a three-game losing streak with all three games decided by seven points or less. Vince Hunter has been the top player on the team with 14.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game. Cedrick Lang is another tough inside threat with 12.6 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 61.2 percent from the field.
