SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – After a Thanksgiving break with no games, the University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team is back on the court against St. Edward's University on Thursday night at the McDermott Convocation Center for Middle School Night at 7 p.m.
The Cardinals (4-0) have yet to lose in the new 2014 season and are riding a six game winning streak dating back to last season. After reaching the century mark in their most recent contest against Texas A&M-International, the team is averaging an impressive 91.8 points per game and have five members of the squad hitting double figures. Overall, UIW is second in the nation in scoring, second in three-point percentage, third in free throw percentage, fifth in blocks per game and in the top 20 in three-pointers per game, assist-to-turnover ratio, assists per game and steals per game.
At the top is senior guard
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip) with an average of 21.0 points and 5.5 rebounds per game along with a team high 13 steals.
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) follows closely behind with an average of 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game while shooting 64.3 percent from the field with 13 three-pointers and eight blocks. Freshman
Jontrell Walker (Aurora, IL/West Aurora HS) has scored over 20 points in each of his last two games and is averaging 17.5 points per game on 50 percent three-point shooting.
An unbeaten record is also at stake for the Hilltoppers, who are 7-0 on the year so far after a fantastic start. They are averaging 80 points per game and allowing 64.6. John Gramlich leads the team with 13.0 points per game while Harley Nussman chips in with 12.9 points per game and a total of 13 blocks.
This will be the final home game of December for Cardinals as they will embark on a long road swing starting on December 8 at UTEP.
