TULSA, OKLAHOMA – With less than 48 hours between their triple overtime victory on Saturday at UMKC and their game with Tulsa on Monday, the University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team had little time to recover. The fatigue showed in a 76-47 loss at University of Tulsa.
The Cardinals (8-2) are in the midst of a seven-game road trip and the loss snapped a three-game winning streak. The Golden Hurricane (7-5) were an NCAA Tournament team in 2013-14.
The Cardinals were unable to get anything going all night long on the offensive end. They shot their lowest percentage of the season from the field and three-point range and the 47 points was the first time the team scored less than 65 points in a game this year.
Tulsa never gave the Cardinals a chance as they jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first 5:09 of the contest. UIW would never get closer than 12 points the rest of the game.
The Cardinals shot 29.1 percent from the field, made 4-of-22 from three-point range and were 11-of-15 at the foul line.
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) led the team with 16 points and three assists while
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) added 11 points and five rebounds. The team had 33 rebounds and committed 17 turnovers.
The Golden Hurricane shot 42.0 percent from the field, made 5-of-21 from beyond the three-point line and they went 13-of-23 from the foul line. Shaquille Harrison was the leading scorer with 24 points, three rebounds and three assists. James Woodard and Curtis Marquel each scored in double figures while D'Andre Wright pulled down 10 rebounds. Overall, Tulsa had 53 rebounds and committed 12 turnovers.
The Cardinals are back in action on January 3 when they travel to Sam Houston State for the Southland Conference opener.
