PRINCETON, NEW JERSEY – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team has their biggest challenge of the young season on Saturday. They travel to Princeton University for a 10 a.m. CST tip-off at Jadwin Gym.
The Cardinals (2-0) easily won their first two games of the year at home against non-Division I opponents, but the Tigers (1-2) are members of the Ivy League and consistently one of the top programs in the conference. They went 21-9 last year and won a game in the College Basketball Invitational. The Princeton men's basketball program is 23
rd all-time in Division I with 1,635 victories and they have advanced to 24 NCAA tournaments.
The Cardinals are averaging 91.5 points per game while allowing 56.0 points per game. As a team they are shooting 48.9 percent from the field and 48.6 percent from three-point range.
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) leads the team with 22.0 points per game along with 4.5 rebounds, assists and steals per contest. He leads the Southland Conference in scoring and steals per game.
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) is second in the conference with 21.0 points per game while shooting 60.9 percent from the field.
Traylin Farris (Houston/Manvel HS) chips in with 12.5 points and a team high 8.5 rebounds per game.
The Tigers score 63.3 points per game and are allowing 68.0 per game. Spencer Weisz and Hans Brase are a strong 1-2 offensive punch. Weisz is averaging 15.7 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while Brase averages 15.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. The team is shooting 41.8 percent from the field and 38.4 percent from three-point range.
