WACO, TEXAS – The Baylor University men's tennis team proved to be too strong for visiting University of the Incarnate Word on Thursday and swept past the visitors, 7-0 at the Hawkins Indoor Facility.
The seventh-ranked Bears (3-0) did not drop a set in defeating the Cardinals (0-2). The best opportunity for a win for UIW came at #2 doubles where
Jair Assuncao (Londrina, Brazil/Carmina Grabner) and
Tucker Brown (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) lost in a tie-break to Julian Lenz and Robert Verzaal, 9-7.
The Bears feature the #2 ranked singles player in NCAA Division I, Lenz, who plays at the #2 position in the lineup. Patrick Pradella plays at #1 singles and is ranked #7 in the country.
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at 10 a.m. against cross-town rival St. Mary's University at home.
