Men's Soccer Opens Season at Missouri State

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS - The University of the Incarnate Word will play on the road against Missouri State University on Friday at 7 p.m. in Springfield, MO.

The Cardinals are coming 15-4-1 season that saw them win the Lone Star Conference and NCAA Division Southwest Region championships en route to an Elite Eight appearance.  In the preseason, UIW defeated San Jacinto Junior College, 4-0 and posted ties at Houston Baptist and at home against St. Edward's.

UIW will be led by Preseason College Sports Madness independent All-Conference Offensive Player of the Year, Vinny Bailey.  He was one of the top scorers in all NCAA Division II in 2012 with 16 goals and nine assists.

Missouri State ended their 2012 season with a 5-8-4 record.  The Bears also played three preseason games earning victories over Northeastern State and Missouri S&T and a tie at Tulsa.  After the UIW match, Missouri State will take on Nebraska Omaha on September 1.

The Cardinals will be traveling much of the season. They will be going from one bear cave to another.  Following Missouri State, UIW will take on the Bears from Central Arkansas on Monday, September 2 at 1 p.m. in Conway, AR.
