SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will look to add another win to their record tomorrow night in a Lone Star Conference matchup against Texas Woman's University at 5:30 p.m. in the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals have outscored their opponents this season averaging 61.9 points per game while only allowing 57.2 points. Two Cardinals are averaging double figures and leading the UIW offense. Senior
Ashlyn Green (Irving/Irving HS) averages 11.5 points per game while junior
Rose Whitehead (Grapevine/Grapevine HS) puts up 10.3 points per game. Senior
Michelle Hale leads the team in rebounds with 6.5 per game.
The Cardinal defense remains in the lead in the conference in scoring defense as they are allowing 57.2 points per game and they are tops in the LSC in steals per game (11.3) and turnover margin (+5.95). Green leads the team and the conference with an average of 3.6 steals per game. She has 61 steals on the season and has a chance to break the school record of 98 steals in a season.
Sitting in eighth place in the conference, the Pioneers (6-12, 4-8) have lost their last two games. As a team the Pioneers are averaging 55.3 points per game and 36.2 rebounds. As the only player averaging double- figures, Toree Mason leads TWU?with 10.7 points per game while contributing 3.7 rebounds per game. Barbara-Scott Kolb leads the Pioneers in steals with 29 on the season.
The last time the Cardinals met up with the Pioneers this season, they walked away with a 59-52 victory on the road. The Cardinals are 7-7 all-time against Texas Woman's.
