UIW Back on Track

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – After suffering their first loss of the season on Tuesday at North Texas, the University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team quickly got back on the right track with a 75-56 win over visiting Texas A&M-International on Saturday afternoon at the McDermott Center.

The Cardinals (6-1) improved to 2-0 at home with the win.  They jumped out to an early 16-9 lead before the Dustdevils (4-4) went on an 8-0 run to take their first lead of the game.  They would only lead for a total of 35 seconds in the game.  Over a 20 minute segment of the game, the Cardinals outscored TAMIU, 50-24 and they cruised to the victory.

UIW shot the ball extremely well throughout the contest and were up to 60 percent from the field at one point late in the second half before settling for 54.3 percent from the field for the game.  They knocked down 9-of-18 from three-point range and are now shooting 44.9 percent from long range for the season.

Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) came off the bench to provide a spark for UIW scoring a team high 21 points.  He went 6-of-9 from the field, 3-for-5 from three-point range and 6-of-6 at the foul line.  He added six rebounds.  Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) finished with 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy-Falls HS) drained all three of his three-point attempts and finished with 11 points and four assists.  The team went 16-of-22 from the foul line, had 28 rebounds and committed 15 turnovers.

The Dustdevils shot 39.6 percent from the field, made 3-of-13 from three-point range and were 11-of-19 at the charity stripe.  Curtis Trotter led the team with 13 points and six rebounds off the bench.  Jordan Clark finished with 12 points and six rebounds while Vadel Faniel added 11 points and six rebounds.  The Cardinals held TAMIU's leading scorer Johnel Grey to no points on four field goal attempts.  They had 34 rebounds and 17 turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday at home against St. Edward's at 7 p.m.  It is the second of seven consecutive home games for UIW.
