SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team returns to the McDermott Center on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. following their first loss of the season at University of North Texas on Tuesday. The Cardinals will take on Texas A&M-International in their second home game of the season.
UIW is 5-1 on the season and have used a balanced inside and outside attack. Senior center
Ian Markolf (San Antonio/Churchill HS) is the focus inside with 9.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game. On the outside, the Cardinals have three players who have been bombing away from three-point range;
Sam Burmeister (San Antonio/Churchill HS),
Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) and
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS). Burmeister leads the team with 20 three-pointers and is connecting on 54.1 percent of his attempts. Hittle has knocked down15 three's and Livingston 16 and both players are averaging over 15.0 points per game.
The Dustdevils (4-3) are long-time rivals of the Cardinals from the Heartland Conference. They average 74.0 points per game, but only have two players scoring in double figures. Johnel Grey is the team's top scorer at 13.3 points per game and is making 50 percent of his attempts. Vadel Faniel is the top rebounder on the team with 7.3 per game and he chips in with 8.3 points per game.
