Box Score PHOENIX, ARIZONA – The University of the Incarnate Word volleyball team dropped their final match of the season at Grand Canyon University on Saturday night in four sets and finished the season with a 13-13 record. The Lopes won the match 25-16, 20-25, 25-22, 25-15 at the Antelope Gymnasium.
The two teams split the first two sets and the third set proved to be the deciding factor in the match. The teams traded the lead back and forth through the first points of the set and then the Cardinals built up an 18-13 lead after back-to-back kills by
Brittani Dear (La Vernia/La Vernia HS). The Lopes (13-19) responded by scoring nine of the next 10 points to take a 22-19 lead. UIW pulled to within 22-21 before the Lopes were able to finish off the set. GCU easily won the fourth set.
The Cardinals had 51 kills, 74 digs, 5.0 blocks and a .155 attack percentage.
Shaina Garza (San Antonio/Warren HS) led the team with 12 kills and 14 digs while Dear added 11 kills and 16 digs.
Taylor McClelland (Cypress/Cypress Ranch HS) led the team with 24 assists.
The Lopes had 59 kills, 89 digs, 12.0 blocks and a .223 attack percentage. Shannon Dugan led the way with 19 kills, 12 digs and four blocks. Kristen Johannsen and Lanie Muys each had at least 10 kills and five blocks. Jessica Posse dished out 29 assists and had 14 digs.
