ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will play their first NCAA Division I opponent of the season on Thursday when they travel to UT-Arlington for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at College Park Center.
The Cardinals (1-0) opened the season last Saturday with an 81-73 win over Wayland Baptist at home.  In that game, UIW battled through foul trouble to grab the victory.  They had five players score in double figures led by
Rose Whitehead's (Grapevine/Grapevine HS) 16 points in 16 minutes off the bench.  Twin sister's Ify and Kosi Mora (Arlington/Grand Prairie HS) combined for 24 points and were 16-for-16 at the foul line.
The Mavericks (0-2) are still looking for their first win of the season after opening the year with losses at Houston Baptist and Oklahoma State.  Briana Walker is the team's only player averaging in double figures and she is scoring 21.0 points per game.  As a team, they are only 1-of-15 from three-point range and just 28.8 percent from the field.
The only other time the two teams have met came on November 29, 1990 when the Mavs won 101-54 in Arlington.
