Cardinals Get Win over Tigers

Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team made the short trip to Trinity University on Monday night and came away with a 74-62 victory.

The Tigers hung around for most of the game and trailed just 49-48 with 12:43 remaining after a layup by Jimmy Clark.  The Cardinals (2-0) were able to put the game away over the next 5:30 by limiting Trinity to a single free throw.  By the time the run was over the Cardinals have a double figure lead that went to as many as 15 points before settling at 12 points.

For the second consecutive game, the Cardinals have five players score in double figures.  Sophomore Kyle Hittle (New Braunfels/New Braunfels HS) led the way with 23 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field.  Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) had a great all-around game with 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Ian Markolf (San Antonio/Churchill HS) posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  Sam Burmeister (San Antonio/Churchill HS) and Mitchell Badillo (Houston/Cy-Falls HS) chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Overall, the Cardinals shot 44.4 percent from the field, made 9-of-22 from three-point range and were 17-of-24 at the foul line.  They had 44 total rebounds, 16 assists and only eight turnovers.

The Tigers were led by Jonathan Wilt's 16 points while Robert Kitzinger added 13 points.  They shot 40.3 percent from the field, made 7-of-23 three-point attempts and were 5-of-8 at the foul line.  They had 32 rebounds, 14 assists and seven turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday at Huston-Tillotson for a 1 p.m. tip-off in Austin.
