Cardinals Celebrate Senior Night

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team takes on visiting Southland Conference rival Northwestern State on Friday at 7 p.m. on Senior Night at Benson Stadium.

The Cardinals (9-6-2, 3-5-2) enter their final weekend of the season needing one win to reach double figures for the 16th time in head coach Tina Patterson's 20 years.  UIW has four seniors who will be honored before the game.  Sarah Flores (Harlingen/South HS), Katie Miller (Tyler/Tyler JC), Sarah Parker (San Antonio/Marshall HS) and Sydney Solomon (Schertz/Randolph HS) have each played critical roles to the team's success this year.

Flores and Miller are the team's starting forwards.  Flores missed six games due to injury this year, but has still scored three goals, two game-winners, and an assist.  Miller has been one of the top scorers in the conference with nine goals and three assists.  She was the Lone Star Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2012.

Parker and Solomon have each played four years for the Cardinals.  Parker has started every game of her career at central defense and has led the team with 17 shutouts in 70 games.  She was the LSC Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and earned second team all-region honors.  Solomon has played forward and midfield throughout her career.  She was first team all-conference and third team all-region in 2012 and has played even better this year with five goals and six assists.  She has scored 16 goals and 11 assists in her career.

The Lady Demons (6-10-1, 4-5-1) have been outscored this year, 33-15 in their matches.  Five of their conference matches have gone to extra time and they are 3-1-1 in those games.  Ashlee Savona leads the team with four goals.  Jessica Danku is the main goalkeeper and she has a 1.73 goals against average with two shutouts.

The Cardinals close out their season on Sunday at 1 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin.
