Men's Soccer on Road for Two

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE – The University of the Incarnate Word men's soccer team embarks on a road trip this weekend where they play both Belmont on Thursday and Georgia State on Saturday.

After a nine day break the Cardinals are back in action this weekend as they head to Nashville, Tennessee and Atlanta, Georgia to face first time rivals Belmont University and Georgia State University.

After a 0-0 draw against Tulsa last week, the road warriors are eager to add to the score sheet and improve on a scoring average of 1.60 goals per game in two fixtures that are pivotal in closing the season with a winning record.  The Cardinals (4-5-1) are looking to avoid only the second losing season in school history and a pair of victories would go a long way toward that goal.

For the Belmont Bruins (5-8-2) a win last weekend at the Rose Park soccer field against Buffalo ended a five game losing streak.  Goalkeeper Grayson Rector added his fourth shutout of a season that has seen him start in goal for all 15 of the Bruins contests. He owns a 1.16 goals against average and has made a total of 57 saves.

The win against Buffalo also proved important for sophomore defender Alfred Edmonds, who's only goal of the game tied freshman forward AJ Arnold's mark of four goals on the season.  Altogether, the Bruins hold a scoring average of 0.87 goals scored per game. The Cardinals kick off against the Bruins at 5 p.m on Thursday.

On Saturday, the Cardinals head to Atlanta, Georgia where they will meet Georgia State University.  Winners of two straight and six out of their last eight has seen the Panthers (7-7-1) turn their season around as they post a scoring average of 1.33 goals scored per game.

After upsetting #9 Furman last week, they have won five straight games at home and hope to make it seven after this week's action where they play Mercer University and UIW at the GSU Soccer Complex. They kick off at 5 p.m.
