A Draw Between Cardinals

Box Score BEAUMONT, TEXAS – For the second straight game the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer played through two overtime periods only to come away with a 0-0 draw.  On Sunday afternoon they tied Southland Conference rival Lamar University on the road.

The UIW Cardinals fired twice as many shots as the Lamar Cardinals, but neither team was able to convert on their chances.  While the two teams combined for 42 total shots and 17 shots on goal it was the goalkeepers from both squads who were the stars.  Sophomore Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) made eight saves for UIW to record her third shutout of the season.  Her counterpart, Bailey Fontenot, made nine saves and faced 28 Incarnate Word shots without allowing a goal.

UIW attempted 16 of their 28 shots in the second half and they earned a total of six corner kicks in the match.  Katie Miller (Tyler/Tyler JC) fired 10 shots, including three shots on goal.

The Cardinals are back in action on Friday night at home against Southland Conference rival Northwestern State at 7 p.m.
