Box Score LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team settled for their first tie of the season when they traveled to Southland Conference rival McNeese State on Friday night. The Cardinals (9-6-1, 3-5-1) and Cowgirls (5-10-2, 0-8-1) played to a 0-0 tie.
The two teams played an evenly matched contest on the field as well as on the scoreboard. The Cardinals attempted 12 shots while the Cowgirls fired off 11 shots. McNeese State took two more shots than UIW in the first half, but in the second half peppered the MSU goal.
Katie Miller (Tyler/Tyler JC) was the Cardinals' most dangerous offensive player. She attempted four shots in the second, one more than the Cowgirls attempted.
In the end, neither team was able to score in 110 minutes of play.
Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) picked up the shutout for the Cardinals and made one save. Maggie Marks made six saves for the Cowgirls to preserve the shutout.
The Cardinals are back in action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Lamar.
