Box Score SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Visiting Lamar University controlled play throughout Saturday's Southland Conference volleyball match and defeated University of the Incarnate Word in three sets 25-22, 25-13, 25-17 at the McDermott Center.
Lamar (6-14, 4-4) excelled on both offense and defense. They finished the match with a .290 attack percentage and did not have less than a .222 attack in any set. Meanwhile, UIW (8-9, 3-5) barely broke into positive figures with a .036 attack for the match.
The visitors' dynamic 1-2 punch of Sierra Whittaker and Chelsea Grant combined for 20 kills, one attack error and a .514 attack. Setter Alexa Johnson added 30 assists and five kills. Erika Rojas led the backline defense with 16 digs while Cortney Moore led the front line defense with five blocks. Lamar finished with 46 digs and nine blocks in the match.
UIW tallied 30 kills, 34 digs and only two blocks in the match.
Angelique Vidaurri (San Antonio/Southwest HS) was one of the few bright spots for the Cardinals with nine kills and a .368 attack.
Jordan Ruiz (San Antonio/Antonian HS) had a season high nine kills.
The Cardinals will look to regroup next Saturday when they travel to Abilene Christian for a 7 p.m. match.
