Despite leading for much of the second half, the Cardinals (7-5, 3-1) found themselves down, 63-59 to the Texans (8-3, 2-2) after a monster dunk by Davene Carter with 3:28 to play in the game. Horton calmly drained his fourth three-pointer of the night on the ensuing possession to pull UIW to within one point and then after a defensive stop, Corley drilled another trifecta with a hand in his face to put the Cardinals up 65-63 with 2:26 to play.
Dionelle Rucker (San Antonio/New Life Christian Academy HS) came up with a big play for the Cardinals on the defensive end on Tarleton's next possession when he blocked the shot of Coleman Furst. The Cards came down and got a layup by
Lyn'Dale Brown (San Antonio/Judson HS) who drew a foul in the process. He missed the free throw, but the Cards got the ball back and Corley hit a tough running jumper as the shot clock expired to make it 69-63 Cardinals.
Brown sealed the game for the Cardinals when he stole the ball from Furst and got it to Horton who was fouled. He drained both ends of the 1-and-1 to ice the game for the Cards.
