SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – After seeing their five game win streak come to an end on Wednesday with a 60-51 loss at Texas A&M-Commerce, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team is ready to hit the court again. The Cardinals will take on Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
The Cardinals are currently 7-3 overall and 3-1 in conference, putting them in second place in the LSC. Currently, three Cardinals average in double figures per game. Junior
Rose Whitehead (Grapevine/Grapevine HS) and senior
Ashlyn Green (Irving/Irving HS) lead the Cardinal offense with 11.4 points per game apiece. Defensively, the Cardinals are leading the league in steals per game and turnover margin. Incarnate Word has also enjoyed being at the foul line this year making eight more free throws per game than their opponents.
The TexAnns currently sport an 8-2 record and a perfect 4-0 conference mark putting them atop the Cardinals in conference standings in first place. Despite preseason road losses against Texas-Permian Basin and St. Mary's, the TexAnns have won their past six games. Leading Tarleton State is Peyton Adamson and Kiara Wright with 15.5 and 15.2 points per game respectively. Adamson leads the conference three-point shooting while Wright leads the league with 12.5 rebounds per game.
After Tarleton State, the Cardinals will take on West Texas A&M on January 10 at home. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
