SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – After a good start to 2013 on the road, the University of the Incarnate Word men's basketball team will host their first game of the new year on Saturday at 4:00 PM against Lone Star Conference rival Tarleton State at the McDermott Center.
Tarleton State comes into the game with an 8-2 overall record and 2-1 mark in the LSC. The Texans are led by Coleman Furst who averages 12.4 points per game. De'Andre Upchurch comes off the bench and fires in 11.4 points per contest. As a team Tarleton State averages just 66.6 points per game, but they hold their opponents to only 58.4 per game.
The Cardinals (6-5, 2-1 LSC) look to stop the Texans four game winning streak with a win. A victory would also vault the Cardinals into second place in the conference. The Cardinals currently have four players in averaging in double figures and are led by
Dionelle Rucker (San Antonio/New Life Christian Academy) who records 17.6 points per game. Rucker also leads the team in rebounds (5.6/gm) and blocked shots (15).
Denzel Livingston (Houston/Waltrip HS) contributes 12.5 points per game while leading the LSC with 2.5 steals per game.
The Cardinals are 9-7 all-time against the Texans. Last year the two teams split the season series with each winning at home.
