Synchro Season Starts in New York

BUFFALO, NEW YORK - The University of the Incarnate Word synchronized swimming team fell just short losing to Canisius College, 87-78 at the Koessler Athletic Center Pool on Saturday. (Results)

The Cardinals placed second in the team routine with a score of 86.00, just 2.67 points behind the host.  After the team routine, Rosilyn Tegart (Kamloops, B.C./South Kamloops) and Jessica Done (Santa Rose, CA/Home School) took second and third place, respectively.  Svetlana Ponkratova of Canisius won the event with 88.333 points.  Tegart followed with 84.5 points and Done had 76.833 points.

The duet of Brianna Andreychuk (Surrey, B.C./Semiahmoo) and Katy Wiita (Vancouver, WA/Catlin Gabel) took second place with a score of 83.00 falling just short of the first-place squad of Victoria Mintz and Svetlana Ponkratova from Canisus College. 

The Cardinals took first in the trio routine.  The trio of Tegart, Andreychuk and Wiita had a score of 85.00 narrowly edging the second place squad who scored an 84.50. 

In the elements figure results, the Cardinals took four of the top five spots.  Ponkratova won the event for Canisius.  Tegart, Andreychuk, Wiita and Brooke Taylor (Las Vegas, NV/Faith Lutheran HS) took the next four spots.  Each of the Cardinals had over 75 points.

The Cardinals will return to action February 1st and 2nd as they travel to Tucson to compete at the University of Arizona.
