SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team hits the hardwood on Saturday with a Lone Star Conference game against Angelo State at the McDermott Center at 2 p.m.
The Cardinals (9-5, 5-3) have outscored their opponents this season, averaging 62.4 points per game while only allowing 59.9. UIW's defense has been outstanding this season. They lead the league in scoring defense and in steals with an average of 11.3 per game. Senior
Ashlyn Green (Irving/Irving HS) leads the Cardinals with 11.3 points per game. She was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday and she leads the team and the conference in steals with 43 on the season and averages 5.0 rebounds per game.
The Rambelles (7-7, 4-4) are right behind the Cardinals in conference standings in fifth place. The Rambelles average 62.6 points per game and have three players averaging over 11 points per game. Haylee Oliver leads the way with 13.1 points per game, 9.2 rebounds and a .397 shooting percentage behind the three-point arc. Lauren Holt and Leah Lemaire are the other Rambelles managing double-figures. After dropping three games in a row, ASU came out with a road win against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Thursday.
The Cardinals are 7-14 all-time with ASU, but beat them 66-49 in their last meeting last season in San Angelo.
