MEN'S SOCCER PLAYS #13 WEST TEXAS A&M

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The Incarnate Word men's soccer team opens up their home schedule this weekend with a pair of games. They will take on #13 West Texas A&M on Friday at 5:00 pm and Our Lady of the Lake on Sunday at 7:30 pm at Benson Stadium.

The Cardinals (2-2) first opponent, West Texas A&M, brings in a high-powered offense. Through five games the Buffalos have notched 19 goals. Nine of those goals have come from Dominic Furness, the current Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week. On the opposite side of the ball, the Buffalos defense has only surrendered five goals.

The Cardinals have had some recent success against West Texas going 1-0-1 last year. Coincidentally UIW's last home defeat came at the hands of the Buffalos in 2010 when they lost 3-1.

Incarnate Word looks to find success from leading point scorer Vincent Bailey (Southport, Eng./King George V).  Bailey has three goals and two assists on the year. The defense, anchored by Jarred Kahan (Houston/Clear Brook HS) and Chris Nero (Charlotte, NC/Olympic HS), will need a strong performance to shut down the West Texas offense.

UIW closes their two-game homestand on Sunday night against Our Lady of the Lake. The Saints come into the weekend with a 1-3 record. Although the Cardinals have never played the Saints before in the regular season, UIW easily won 6-1 three weeks ago in a preseason friendly.
