A pair of Incarnate Word jumpers put their marks in the school record book at the UIW Last Chance Meet conducted recently at Benson Stadium on campus.
Mayberry went 13.83 meters in the triple jump. That distance is now the second best in Cardinals history and was good for third place at the meet.
Over in the high jump pit, Kenneth Pryor won the event with his personal career best of 2.06 meters. That height is now third best in Incarnate Word history. In the jump UIW's Leon Knights cleared 2.01 meters for third place and the fifth best leap ever at UIW.
Last chance meets pop up in the area at this time of the year as athletes attempt to improve on their national seedings and to earn invitations to NCAA national meets. UIW athletes are shooting for the Division II championship event set for May 24-26 in Pueblo, Colo.
The Cardinals will be at Trinity on May 13 for their final attempt to gain entry to the national meet.
Elsewhere at the UIW Last Chance, Christopher DeWitt was sixth in the 200 with a 22.21 while Howard Gill won the 1,500-meters in 3:59.53. The UIW 4x100 relay team finished second in 41.18. Matthew Harris and Mayberry were fourth and sixth respectively in the long jump with efforts of 6.59 and 6.53 meters.
The other UIW competitor was Chance Dziuk in the discus. He was fourth with 38.66 meters.
