ONE QUALIFIER AND SEVERAL BESTS ACHIEVED

Howard Gill ran his way onto an NCAA provisional list.

Howard Gill got onto the NCAA Division II provisional list as he led Incarnate Word's track and field team at the weekend J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight meet in Houston.

Gill went the 1,500-meters in 3:52.12 and finished sixth.  The meet was dominated by Division I athletes.  That time is a new UIW school mark, lowering the 3:55.76 which Gill ran just a week earlier.  It also put him on the provisional list for the end-of-May NCAA Division II national championships.

In the next distance, the 5,000-meters, Tobias Dreier continued his dominance of the UIW record book with a 14:59.24.  That beat his previous school mark of 15:05.20 from a month ago and gives him the three fastest 5,000-meters in UIW history.

In the 3,000-steeplechase Adrian Carrillo posted his personal best with a 9:33.09.  That lowered his personal time by a whopping six and one-half seconds and is now the second best ever at UIW.

Other notables were Tommy Brown's third place finish in the 100 with a mark of 10.69, and Chance Dziuk's 47.33-meter toss in the discus which is third on the all-time UIW list—all three distances belong to Dziuk.

After a few meets which will draw individual UIW runners the Cardinals as a full team have the Lone Star Conference championships in their sights.  That meet is set for May 4 to May 6 in Commerce.
