The 2011-12 home finale for the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team ended with a tough 76-59 loss to Abilene Christian on Wednesday night.
As a team, the Cardinals (12-12, 7-11) shot 31.9% from the floor, including 10-of-31 from the three-point line, and coughed up 22 turnovers that the Wildcats were able to turn into 27 points (UIW forced ACU into 19 turnovers, but only scored 18 points from them).
Junior guard Katy Cooke scored a team-high 23 points and dished out 4 assists to lead UIW. The only other Cardinal in double-figures was Jocelyn Jarmon, who had 11 points and 5 assists to go with her 3 steals and 2 blocked shots.
ACU had three players scored in double-digits, including a 21-point, 19-rebound effort by center Kelsey Smith.
UIW will head out on the road for the remainder of the regular season, including Saturday's matchup against Angelo State University, which is scheduled to be broadcast online by Fox Sports Southwest.
It was also senior night for two UIW players – Chloe Wallace and Lauren Shelton. The two players were honored before the game.
Wallace has played two seasons for UIW, transferring to Incarnate Word as a junior from Temple Junior College. Shelton played one season for the Cardinals, transferring from Lindenwood University.
