SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team will take on conference rival Texas Woman's University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Denton.
The Cardinals (6-2, 2-0) have maintained their strong start to their season and will be looking for their fifth straight win. The Pioneers (3-6, 1-2) have not been as impressive, but are coming off a 70-66 road win against Texas A&M-Kingsville, their first conference win of the season.
The Cardinals are currently averaging 64.1 points and are giving up 60.4 points per game. They are still among the top teams in the nation at forcing turnovers with 194 on the season so far.
Ashlyn Green (Irving/Irving HS) leads the Cardinals in steals with 23 and is also averaging 8.3 points per game. Leading the team in points is
Lauren McKinney (Grand Prairie/Arlington Bowie HS) with 11.5 per game.
Michelle Hale (Albuquerque, NM/Rio Grande HS) is the top rebounder for Incarnate Word with 8.0 per game.
Texas Woman's is averaging 56.4 points and is giving up 64.2 points per game. Toree Mason is the Pioneer's leading scorer with 11.1 points per game and 11 three-pointers on the season. Helping her out is Ria Pateraki with 10.1 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Pateraki is the team's top rebounder.
After the Pioneers, the Cardinals break from games for the holidays. Their next game will be on Jan. 2 against Texas A&M-Commerce at 5:30 p.m. in Commerce.
