FALCONS SOAR PAST CARDINALS

Box Score ODESSA, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team made their first long road trip of the season and they were treated poorly by UT-Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon at the Falcon Dome losing 77-52. (Box Score)

The Cardinals (2-2) were never in the game as the Falcons (3-0) jumped out to a 30-6 lead in the first nine minutes of the game.  The UTPB lead ballooned to as many as 36 points in the second half and UIW never got closer than 20 points.

The Cardinals shot 33.3 percent from the field, made 3-of-8 from three-point range and were 13-of-24 from the foul line.  Rose Whitehead (Grapevine/Grapevine HS) and Lauren McKinney (Grand Prairie/Arlington Bowie HS) led the team with nine points apiece while Michelle Hale (Albuquerque, NM/Centenary) led the team with seven rebounds.  The Cards finished with 32 rebounds and committed 13 turnovers.

The Falcons shot 51.6 percent from the field, made 8-of-21 from three-point range and were 5-for-12 at the charity stripe.  Teisha King poured in 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting from the field and grabbed seven rebounds.  Briannah Matthews dominated with 20 points and 14 boards while converting 9-of-10 field goals.  They had 47 rebounds and committed 19 turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at St. Mary's University.
