MEN'S BASKETBALL HEADS TO LAREDO

LAREDO, TEXAS – The Incarnate Word men's basketball team will face a tough test as they head to Laredo to square off against Texas A&M-International this Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Cardinals (2-1) suffered their first defeat of the season on Wednesday as they dropped a close one to cross-town rival St. Mary's University, 94-87. They will look to get back on track but it will be no easy feat.

The Dustdevils (2-0) have started the season by beating two Lone Star Conference schools. TAMIU has three players that average in double figures. Johnel Gray (14.0 pts/gm), Matthew Culliver (12.5 pts/gm) and Felipe Vezaro (11.5 pts/gm) will look to lead the Dustdevils to their second straight victory over the Cardinals. The Cardinals and Dustdevils faced off against each other once last season where the Dustdevils picked up the win, 71-58 at hoe.

The Dustdevils will have to shut down Dionelle Rucker (San Antonio/New Life Christian Academy) who is putting up 26 points per game for UIW. Rucker was recently named the Lone Star Conference Player of the Week. Junior Anthony Horton (League City/Clear Springs HS) has also been a large contributor for UIW putting up 13.7 points per game.
