SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – Long- time rivals University of the Incarnate Word and St. Mary's University will meet up in men's basketball action on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the McDermott Center. This is the final time the two teams will meet on the campus of Incarnate Word as members of NCAA Division II with the transition of the Cardinals to NCAA Division I starting next season.
The Cardinals (2-0) are fresh off a pair of victories at the St. Edward's Shootout over the weekend in Austin. The knocked off UT-Permian Basin, 80-77 and St. Edward's, 84-81. Senior forward
Dionelle Rucker (San Antonio/New Life Christian Academy) was named the MVP of the tournament after averaging 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game while shooting 67.7 percent from the field. Senior point guard
Lyn'Dale Brown (San Antonio/Judson HS) was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 11.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
The Rattlers have yet to play a game this year. Last year, they went 19-9 and won the Heartland Conference Tournament before losing to Midwestern State in the NCAA Division II Tournament. They are led by senior center Kevin Kotzur who was a second team all-region selection last year and enters the season with 1,453 career points and 714 rebounds.
