SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – The University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team saw their hopes for a regular season Lone Star Conference championship come to a dramatic end on Friday night at Benson. Visiting Angelo State scored four minutes into overtime to win 1-0 and drop the Cardinals out of first place on the final day of the regular season. (

The Cardinals (9-7, 9-5) had their chances to score in the first half, but Danielle Edwards made five saves in the period. UIW controlled the first half of play outshooting the Belles (10-7-1, 8-5-1), 9-3. The tide began to change in the second half as the Belles and Cards each fired six shots. In overtime, ASU had the advantage and eventually scored on a through ball from Lauren Bateman to Kayla Gregory who slipped her shot past 
Heather Kowalik (Boerne/Champion HS) at 94:07.
The Cardinals finished the game with 15 shots, including seven on goal. 
Amanda Watkins (San Antonio/Brandeis HS) led the team with three shots on goal, but could not beat Edwards. Kowalik finished the game with seven saves.
The Belles tallied 12 shots, including eight on goal. Their shots were evenly distributed throughout the team with Gregory the only player to have two shots on goal. Edwards finished with seven saves en route to the shutout.
The Cardinals finish the regular season in second place in the LSC. They head into the conference tournament next week at West Texas A&M as winners of six of their last eight games.
