It is common knowledge that winning on the road, in any sport, can be difficult to do.
On Thursday, the University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team lost a Lone Star Conference game to West Texas A&M in the Lady Buffs' home arena, 67-60.
The loss drops UIW's overall record to 10-8 and puts them at 5-7 in the LSC.
A trio of UIW players scored in double-figures, led by Jocelyn Jarmon's 15 points (to go with her six assists and 6 rebounds).Ifunayna Mora scored 11 points (5 rebounds) and Katy Cooke scored 10 points (with 3 assists) to lead Incarnate Word in a tough road matchup.
The Cardinals trailed, 32-19, at the half and responded with a 41-to-35 effort in the second half, closing the WT lead to just four points, 60-54, with 45 seconds to play. But, the Lady Buffs made seven free throws in the final seconds while Incarnate Word could only keep pace.
UIW was only able to pressure West Texas into two turnovers via steals and the Cardinals also had to deal with a 21-to-13 foul disparity in favor of the home team. WT took advantage, making 19 of the 22 free throw opportunities they got (including 7-of-8 in the final 45 seconds) while the Cardinals were only afforded 12 free throw chances in the entire contest, hitting 10 of them.
Incarnate Word will stay on the road through this Saturday, next facing Eastern New Mexico University on Saturday in Portales, New Mexico.
