CARDINALS COME BACK VS. TWU

Ashlyn Green led all scorers with 23 points.

Saturday's Lone Star Conference game at the McDermott Center resulted in a victory for University of the Incarnate Word over Texas Woman's University, 62-55, and showed the UIW coaching staff that their team is capable of coming back in a game and finishing for a victory.

“I think this could be a turning point for us,” coach Angela Lawson said. “It's the first time all season that we have been trailing, fought back, and then finished. In all our wins, we got up early and finished with a double-digit lead. Or, if we trailed and came back, we wouldn't be able to do what it took to get the win.

Lawson was also very, very happy with the effort of Ashlyn Green and Ifunanya Mora, who were the top two scorers in the game – Green with 23 points (the highest scoring output for a Cardinal this year) and Mora with 17 points.

The victory improves UIW to 9-6 overall and 4-5 in the LSC.

Incarnate Word out-rebounded TWU 39-to-33 (including 17 on offense) and pressured the Pioneers into 18 turnovers.

UIW's next game is on Wednesday, at home, against Texas A&M-Kingsville at 5:30 p.m.
