After holding the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions to nine points in the first set, the Cardinals went on to win set two and drop set three to the Lions before coming back in set four to end the match.
After such solid performances in sets one and two, the Cardinals had some struggled in set three, diminishing their chances of sweeping the Lions.
Sophomore outside hitter Elizabeth Soukup led UIW in kills against the Lions with 17. Soukup was only one dig behind leader Lydia Werchan, junior libero, with 13. Werchan accumulated 14 digs over the four sets.
After being selected as one of the LSC's setters of the week, sophomore setter Danielle Suarez had another great night with 23 assists. Veteran and senior setter Sarah Nordman was right with Suarez with 20 assists in the match.
Daniella Vidaurri, senior middle blocker, was all over the net again. With four blocks total, two solo and two block assists, Vidaurri led the Cardinals in blocks. UIW obtained 10 total team blocks compared to the Lion's five.
Freshman outside hitter Breanne Snyder led Texas A&M-Commerce in kills with 15 and Jordan Neal, sophomore setter, deserved a pat on the back, ending the match with 40 assists. The Lions dropped to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the LSC.
The Cardinals improved their record to an even 7-7 overall and 4-4 in the LSC.
The Cardinals will play their last home game before traveling to Texas A&M International on Saturday, Sept. 24 against Texas Woman's. Game time is set to start at 2 p.m. at the McDermott Center.
