CARDINALS DROP HEARTBREAKING ROAD MATCH TO ACU

Junior libero Lydia Werchan led the Cardinals in digs with 16.

(25-17, 25-21, 21-25, 26-28, 18-16)

 

The Cardinals travelled to Abilene to take on the Wildcats of Abilene Christian on Tuesday.  UIW (4-6) came off back to back wins at the Lady Buff Invitational only to lose to the Wildcats in a five set match.

 

Sophomore setter Danielle Suarez led the Cardinals with 27 assists and Sarah Nordman, was close behind with 15.  Junior outside hitter Stephanie Bonura had another solid performance for the Cardinals with 15 kills and freshman outside hitter Kelci Lind made her presence known with 10. 

 

Lind held her own in defense as well.  The newcomer finished the match with 14 digs.  The only Cardinal to have more digs than Lind was junior libero Lydia Werchan with 16. 

 

ACU posted some inspiring numbers on their side of the board as well.  Sophomore setter Caley Johnson registered 49 of the team's 70 assists.  Finishing most of those assists was Jennie Hutt, senior outside hitter, with 32 kills. Senior libero Kelsie Edwards led ACU in digs with 28.

 

The Cardinals are set to play another conference game at the McDermott Center on Sept. 15 against Midwestern State.  The game will start at 7 p.m.
