MCDONNOUGH, JARABA-HEFFNER FASTEST YET

Corey McDonnough bested his own record in the 400-meters.
Incarnate Word's track and field Cardinals were in Houston for the annual J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight meet and Corey McDonnough and Sebastien Jaraba-Heffner came home with new school marks.

McDonnough ran fifth in the 400-meters with a time of 48.25.  That eased him by himself in the UIW record book. The previous mark was a year ago when McDonnough posted a 48.25.

Likewise Jaraba-Heffner surpassed himself in the 800-meters. His time of 1:52.37 lowered the bar from his previous best of 1:42.37 in May of last year. And there was a bonus for Jaraba-Heffner. That fifth place time at Rice put him squarely on the provisional list for the upcoming NCAA Division II national championships.

He joins the Cardinals 4x400 relay team which also is on the provisional list for the late May championships. That foursome is McDonnough, Taylor Echevarria, George Alicea and Zachary Kunz.

In the 800, at UIW, Jaraba-Heffner owns the entire record book. He has posted the top five times in school history at that distance and three of those five have been this spring.

At the meet at Rice UIW got a seventh place finish from Chance Dziuk in the discus (44.82 meters or 147-00 feet) and the two relay teams had top finishes with a third in the 4,400 (3:14.09) and a seventh in the 4x100 (42.57).

The Lone Star Conference championships are next on the UIW schedule. That meet will be May 7 to May 9 in Stephenville hosted by Tarleton State.
