WOMEN PLAY #21 CLOSE, PACED BY WALLACE

Chloe Wallace led the Cardinals with 18 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday night.

It was more than just a visit by the No. 21-ranked team in NCAA's Division II when Tarleton State University came to the McDermott Center on Wednesday night.

Tarleton and Incarnate Word had faced off previously in the season, in Stephenville, and the TexAnns had throttled UIW, 81-51. So, with TSU on the Cardinals' home floor, UIW was not only looking to shock the world (or at least the Lone Star Conference), but they were looking to get some payback.

In the end, Tarleton State won, 70-62, but the Cardinals (7-13, 3-5) played well.

Leading the charge for UIW was Chloe Wallace, who scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, blocked two shots and got a steal. In the words of head coach Angela Lawson, Wallace “played her tail off” en route to another double-double.

Helping Wallace were teammates Ifunanya Mora (14 points, 7 rebounds and 4 seatls) and Katy Cooke (12 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals).

The Cardinals will be on the road this weekend against Midwestern State. UIW defeated MSU, 60-51, on January 22nd in the McDermott Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 PM.
