The Incarnate Word volleyball team came out firing early but lost the final three sets to Tarleton State in an afternoon match at the McDermott Center.
Despite winning the first set, the Cardinals dropped the final three sets to the Lone Star Conferences fourth ranked squad.
UIW was led offensively by Stephanie Bonura who had team high 12 kills. Daniella Vidaurri was just behind her with ten kills of her own. Sophomore Danielle Suarez had a game high 28 assists to go along with her seven digs. Lydia Werchan led the team in digs with 27.
On the opposite side of the net, the Texanns had a well-balanced attack. Stacie Murrah and Katie Covell both had a team high 12 kills. Just behind them was Flynn Harrell who contributed 11 of her own.
Nearly all of those points were assisted by either Jessie Hartman or Danielle Barker who had 27 and 24 respectively. The team leader in digs was Emily Klein who had 23.
The loss drops the Cardinals to 11-18 on the year and 6-14 in the Lone Star Conference.
The Cardinals will wrap up the regular season next Tuesday as they host Texas A&M International in a non-conference matchup. Incarnate Word will be recognizing five seniors before the match as they celebrate senior day. The first serve will be at 7:00 PM with the senior day ceremonies taking place right before.
