The end of the regular season for the Incarnate Word women's soccer team came in San Angelo against the Rambelles of San Angelo State in a Lone Star Conference matchup on Friday.
The game was a 1-1 draw, giving the Cardinals a 5-7-5 overall record and a 3-7-4 Lone Star record. Sasha Vrany got the goal for Incarnate Word, burying a pass from Sydney Solomon in the 21st minute, for her first goal of the season.
UIW took the lead into the break and defended the goal well until 67:07 of the second half when ACU scored an equalizer from a corner kick.
Knotted up 1-1, regulation ended and both teams went into overtime. Twenty minutes later, neither team had been able to get a game-winning score and the contest was over.
The Cardinals were sitting in 7th place in the LSC going into Friday's game and needed a victory and some help from West Texas A&M (4-7-1 and in 6th place) to get into the six-team Lone Star Conference Soccer Championships at Abilene Christian.
UIW can still get into the LSC Championship if WT loses both of its games this weekend – Friday at home against 3rd place Eastern New Mexico and Sunday on the road against 1st place Abilene Christian University – because the Cardinals and Lady Buffs would still be tied after the regular season ended and UIW has a tiebreaker advantage over WT.
If the Cardinals reach the Championships, they will head to Abilene as the 6th seed for an 11 a.m. game on Thursday against the 3rd seed, which would most-likely be either Eastern New Mexico or Angelo State.
