With the spring semester officially underway, the Lone Star Conference office announced the LSC Women's Basketball Players of the Week today and Incarnate Word freshman Ifunanya Mora was named the South Division's Defensive Player of the Week.
Mora, who hails from Grande Prairie and joined coach Angela Lawson's team with her twin sister Kosio, was a key factor in the Cardinals' quick turnaround over the last few contests, averaging 12.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in four games as UIW won 3-of-4 games against regional opponents – improving UIW's record to 4-8 overall after an 0-7 start.
Her 20-point, 12-rebound night against Texas-Permian Basin (a 96-93 win for Incarnate Word) ties her for most points in a game (this season) and puts her alone with the most rebounds in a game for UIW this year. She scored in double-digits in three of the four games and had eight steals, two blocks and five assists.
She and the rest of the Cardinals play host to West Texas A&M University at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday night at the McDermott Center. West Texas is 7-6 overall, but three of those losses have come to nationally ranked opponents. In addition, the Lady Buffs are averaging 70.5 points-per-game while Incarnate Word is averaging 58.3 ppg.
