WOMEN TAKE DOWN ANOTHER LONE STAR SCHOOL, TOP ACU

Three players for University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team scored in double digits against Abilene Christian University in the team's 67-62 victory in Austin at the St. Edward's University Shootout on Satutrday.

Senior guard Nia Torru scored 15 points and forward Nikki Brown scored 12 points – but it was freshman point guard Katherine Frost who led the Cardinals with a 16-point effort, a day after scoring double-digits for UIW against Angelo State University.

Torru and Brown added seven and six rebounds, respectively, and LaShae Woodard scored nine points and had five steals.

It was the second game in a row where UIW (2-1) won the turnover battle, giving up the ball just 14 times to ACU, while Abilene Christian had 18 turnovers. Against Angelo State, UIW only had 15 turnovers.

The Cardinal women's next game will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Arkansas Monticello University at the McDermott Center in UIW's home-opener for the 2009-10 season.
