The University of the Incarnate Word women's basketball team got its first win of the season on Friday, defeating Angelo State University, 59-54, on the first day of the St. Edward's University Shootout in Austin, TX.

The Cardinals, now 1-1 overall, had good outings from two new players – with forward Brittney Bennett scoring 10 points and freshman point guard Katherine Frost leading UIW with 14 points.

Frost led all scorers in the game. Angelo State had just one player in double figures.

UIW, which had 27 turnovers in a season-opening loss on the road against West Texas A&M University, only coughed up the ball 15 times to the Rambelles.

The Cardinals play in Austin again on Saturday, facing Abilene Christian University in another Heartland Conference-vs.-Lone Star Conference matchup.
