WOMEN FINISH ROAD TRIP WITH VICTORY OVER DBU

With a 2-1 victory over Dallas Baptist, the University of the Incarnate Word women's soccer team remained in second place in the Heartland Conference and ended their five-game road trip with two wins.

The trip, which covered most of the month of October, was a 3-1-1 overall experience for UIW, which has an overall record of 12-2-3 and 7-1-1 in the Heartland.

Sarah Hernandez was in the middle of all the offense for Incarnate Word, setting up the game's first goal to Clarissa Cruz in the 31st minute and then scoring the eventual game-winner herself in the 43rd minute of the first half.

Dallas Baptist got on the scoreboard in the 70th minute, but it was too little too late and the Cardinals left Dallas with the victory.

UIW returns home to Gayle & Tom Benson Stadium on Friday as the first part of a UIW Homecoming Week soccer doubleheader with the men's program, taking on St. Edward's University at 6 p.m.

The game against SEU is huge for Incarnate Word and the Heartland Conference, as the Cardinals will have a chance to give the 8-1 Hilltoppers their second loss and leapfrog St. Edward's into first place in the conference. With two games left – and an NCAA automatic playoff bid at stake – Friday's game may very well decide UIW's playoff fate.
