Salvineo "Sal" Cervantes currently serves as the Associate Athletic Director of Sports Medicine. His main focus and responsibility is to ensure that the health and safety of all UIW student athletes is supported by the institution and the athletics department. He is also a member of the senior staff within the athletics department where he assists the athletic director in making overall departmental decisions that make positive immediate and future impacts on the student athletes.

Sal joined UIW as an athletic trainer in the summer of 2017. In 2019, he was promoted to senior athletic trainer and also served as the head football athletic trainer. In spring of 2020, he was elevated to the position of Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine , and then was eventually promoted to his current title and role.

He is a proud alum of UIW having obtained two degrees from the institution, a Bachelor of Science in athletic training (2006) and a Master of Science in kinesiology human performance (2009).  While obtaining his graduate degree, he also worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer where he provided care for UIW Women's Soccer, Men's Basketball, and Track & Field.

Other work history includes serving as the head athletic trainer from 2009-2017 for Thomas A. Edison High School in the San Antonio Independent School District. The eight years he spent with the school, staff, and students helped him to grow professionally and he is forever grateful for the opportunity to get his start in the same district that he attended growing up.

Sal and his wife Jennifer are both natives of San Antonio and they have two sons, Xander and Xayden and a family dog, Aries.Â
