Coach MaLik Burns joined the UIW Track & Field coaching staff in August 2024.
Before UIW Burns was the Assistant Track & Field coach (Throws) at Marion Military Institute. As well as the day-to-day activities, he designed programming individually for student-athletes in three different academic programs that included both non-military and military paths. He assisted in recruitment of potential student-athletes, and coached two top-15 finishes in Discus at 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Nationals and two top-20 finishes in hammer throw at 2024 NJCAA Outdoor Nationals.
Burns also coached at Transylvania University where he was also the Assistant Track & Field coach (Throws).Â
Burns competed at the University of the Cumberlands and at conference foe, Southeastern Louisiana where he was a 2020 Southland Indoor Conference Champion. In 2019 he was named to the 2019 All-Louisiana Shotput Third Team.
