Matt Buchhorn joined the Cardinals cross country staff in the fall of 2011 as a graduate assistant.
 
A product of Granger High School, he recently received his bachelor’s degree from Hardin-Simmons University. His field of study was behavioral science in sports studies. He worked one year at Southwestern University.
 
Buchhorn was a two-time regional qualifier in cross country for Hardin-Simmons. He also holds nine school records in track ranging from the mile run to the 10,000-meter event. At the American Southwest Conference meet he was a top three finisher in the 5,000 and 10,000.
 
While coaching at Southwestern his teams had two all-conference runners with one male earning all-region honors.
 
He has interests in biking, camping, hiking and running marathons and triathlons. He is a USATF Level I certified coach and he is a member of USTFCCCA.
