Gary Potts

Gary Potts, who has more than 30 years playing experience and more than 15 years coaching experience, is in his second year as an assistant coach at University of the Incarnate Word. Potts was on staff at Akron University (Division I) for 5 years where they qualified for the NIT three of those years.

In his first season at UIW, Potts worked with Lone Star Conference First Teamer Briana Sanchez, Whitney Waltrip and Kandace Patek.  Sanchez and Waltrip combined for a total of four LSC Pitcher of the Week citations.  The staff posted a 3.50 ERA and racked up 312 strikeouts in 382 innings.

Potts also served as assistant coach at Denison University (Division III) for 4 seasons.  During his tenure, Denison was NCAC Conference Champions twice in 2006 and 2007. Potts was responsible for pitchers and catchers and achieved the lowest staff ERA in the NCAC in 2006 and 2007 and developed the  NCAC pitcher of the year in 2007.

Potts returned to Division I at Morehead State University (Morehead, KY) in 2007. He developed the 2008 OVC Conference pitcher of the year who had an ERA that was 12th in the nation.  The four-person pitching staff also posted a 1.26 ERA which was in the top ten of Division I schools.  The two-year staff ERA was under 2.00.  In 2009 he developed  an NFCA First Team All Region Pitcher.

In addition to his collegiate experience, he has coached travel ball teams in Ohio and Texas for 16 years. Potts also has 30 years experience as a pitcher and catcher himself.
