Biography
2017: Saavedra finished first at the UIW Cardinal Quadrangle with a vault of 15-11 to add his name to the record book.
2016: Saavedra placed fourth in the pole vault at the J.D. Martin Invitational. He did not compete during the outdoor season.
2015: Saavedra did not compete during the indoor season, but was one of the top vaulters on the team during the outdoor campaign. He cleared 14-10 at the Southland Conference meet and placed eighth. He was the runner-up at the UIW Invitational with a clearance of 14-9.
High School: Saavedra was a member of the track team at El Paso Hanks High School. He had a season best of 15-0 in the pole vault and was a 2013 Texas 4A State qualifier in the event. He was a district and area champion in the pole vault and finished second at the regional meet. He was a member of the National Honor Society and Student Council.
Personal: Saavedra is the son of Mario and Linda Saavedra and is studying criminal justice with a minor in business. He has a brother, Mario and a sister, Danielle. He was born on April 21, 1996.
